“Becoming Free” is a process – it’s a process that all victims of Child Rape and Child Sexual Abuse, as well as their family members – well… only the loving and caring and supportive family members – go through. It is a work-in-progress. It is a heart-wrenching, heart-breaking, angry, and shocking process that can strengthen you or break you.

My reasons for starting this blog is to write about what we went through, and hopefully, show you that these horrible experiences can be turned around – that they CAN strengthen you RATHER than break you. I truly believe that whatever experiences are forced upon us, we have the choice to turn it around, and use it to help someone else, who may be going through the same thing, later down the road.

With that in mind, I’ll introduce myself. I am a mother of three – girl, boy, girl. My two girls were raped and molested by a family member – over the span of years. There are four years difference between all three of them, making for an eight year difference between my two girls. My son, in the middle, was affected by all of this as well, so I’ll be sharing about him, too.

When everything came to light, I told my children that now is the time to become warriors. We all became warriors together and we fought. We fought to get what we needed with the police unit, with our detective (who we grew close to), and with the prosecutor’s office – but the ultimate and biggest and most heart-breaking fight – was with the family.

I hope you’ll find this blog to be a place of advocacy for you – a place where you can find support and encouragement. From someone who knows. From someone who fought the fight. From someone who won.

Many of my friends were sexually and physically abused as children. They still bear the scars as adults. Thanks for bringing this issue to light. ~ Dennis

Thank You for being supportive of your friends. The scars can sometimes threaten the very existence of the ones abused. It’s nice that some friends understand that and can be the balm to those scars when needed.
